The process of automating tests for Web applications is similar to the process of automating tests for Windows-based applications. For Web applications, you use a Web browser to record and run tests.

Note: You can record tests on Web applications in QuickTest Professional only by using Microsoft Internet Explorer. However, you can run tests on Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Browser, Mozilla Firefox, and applications that have Internet Explorer Web browser controls embedded in them.

Enabling the Web Add-in:

QuickTest does not automatically recognize Web Objects during a record session. Before you record a Test for a Web Application, you prepare the environment for Recording the test.

You enable Web add-ins to ensure that QuickTest recognizes Web objects during a record session.

To enable Web add-ins:

  1. Open QuickTest Professional. The QUICKTEST PROFESSIONAL - ADD-IN MANAGER dialog box appears.
  2. Check the WEB check box, as shown in Figure
  3. Click OK.
